A pattern recognition method, the improved consecutive Hammingmethod (ICHAM) is proposed. It improves upon the Hamming method by usingconsecutive data. The method is applied to the earthquake-prone regionsof Beijing. The results show that the effect of the ICHAM method isbetter than that of the binary Hamming method and the originalconsecutive Hamming method. The tests show better stability of theresults
