Recently, an active phased array antenna using monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) and digital signal processing techniques is being investigated to obtain advanced function including electrically beam scanning and adaptive pattern control for eliminating interference signals. Trials to develop a compact-size, light-weight and low-profile antenna for satellite mobile communications using such an active phased array have been reported(1)(2). To realize the active array antenna for satellite mobile communications, it will be important to develop an element antenna and active components suitable for monolithic and integrated structures. In addition, techniques for multi-layered feed network are required.
