Radiation characteristics of curved microstrip line antennas

The microstrip Green's function of a horizontal dipole is employed for formulating an integral equation for the current distribution along the arbitrary shape microstrip line antenna. The resulting integral equation is then solved for calculating the current distribution using a moment method. Analytical expressions for the far zone fields are obtained using an asymptotic method for evaluating the sommerfeld integrals. Examples illustrating the accuracy of the method and characteristics of selected printed antennas are presented. It is found that for undulated printed line elements, the resonance length increases by increasing the undulation height. Various examples of undulated printed line elements which are useful for array design are investigated. The effect of the undulation height on the radiation characteristics of the printed line is also studied.
