A technique for improved performance in estimating the bearing of signals in unknown colored noise, that is correlated from sensor to sensor,is presented. This method forms a real vector of length 2N rather than an N by N complex Hermitian matrix. Here N is the number of sensors. From this real vector of length 2N,N subvectors of length N+2 are constructed.Using singular value decomposition first the number of signals is determined, then an orthogonal projector onto the orthogonal complement of the signal subspace is formed. This projector is then used to estimate the angles of arrival of signals.Computer simulations which confirm the theoretical findings are also presented.
