This paper discusses an approach jointly developed by El Paso Products Company and General Electric Company to obtain rapid, on-line analysis of hydrocarbon samples processed in El Paso's Control Laboratory. Previously, these analyses had been processed by manual or semi-automated methods. The techniques were probably the same as those used by most companies in the industry at the present time. To compare this new method with the present method, this paper will examine both. Following this background information, the discussion will cover the method developed which led to significant manpower savings and rapid, online results by using an industrial on-line process computer.
