Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) synchronous generators can obtain a constant output power by strengthening and weakening the magnetic exciting flux in the wide speed range. This paper is proposed to the design procedure of the IPM generator which is suited for flux strengthening and weakening. The design optimization process and experimental verification of the performance of the prototype IPM generator are reported as a case study of a 3.5kW generator which the base speed is 2000 r/min and the maximum speed is 6000 r/min.
