To evaluate the temperature field in a rotor of a high speed permanent magnet synchronous gcnerator(PMSG), This paper firstly proposes a eddy current-thermal coupling field model of the generator by using 2D Time-stepping Finite-Element-Method(FEM). The model can accurately calculate actual temperature field with considering permeability-temperature characteristics of materials. In forced air cooling condition, convection heat transfer coefficient and air friction loss of the rotor surface are calculated by empirical formulas. And then, a eddy current-thermal-flow coupling field model is put forward, which can estimate the thermal equilibrium and steady state temperature of the rotor. Finally, taking a lOOKw, 45000r/min air-cooling micturbine generator as an example, this paper gives the temperature distributions of the rotor. Experimental data presented in literatures are used to show validity the proposed model, which is helpful to the thermal design of the high speed PM generator.
