Although the last decade has seen monumental progress in the modeling of the casting process, coupled with highly relevant observations which have resulted from validation experiments, this technology has so far only penetrated no more than ten percent of the casting industry's units. The present paper summarizes this progress, examines some of the factors which have determined the rate of penetration, and underscores the advantages which are currently being gained by organizations which have had the courage to invest in this new technology.
