The paper developed two mathematical models for DFIG without and with Stator Winding Inter-turn Short Circuit (SWITSC) failure respectively. The small-signal stability of DFIG is studied then by combining the wind turbine model and pitch control system for the small-signal stability studies. Under different external conditions and internal state (such as wind speed and short circuit ratio varied), whether the DFIG is stable or not is determined by Lyapunov stability theory and the eigenvalue loci. To analyze the impact parameters, the participation factors are introduced. Simulation results show that the effect of SWITSC fault to DFIG wind power system could be accepted within a certain range.
