Security-Constrained Transmission Expansion Planning Considering High Proportion of Wind Power and Natural Disasters

The primary goal for system planners is to ensure the safety of power systems under uncertainty. Besides the intermittency of increasing renewable energy and load fluctuation, the natural disaster of high-risk also poses a critical challenge to system planners. Pre-considering the vulnerable parts of the power system during the planning stage and taking appropriate measures to play a key role in reducing the losses caused by natural disasters. The aim of this paper is to consider the impact of natural disasters on the power grid. First of all, taking each transmission branch as a starting point and considering the correlation between the outage of transmission lines, a correlation evaluation index is proposed to determine the final scheme of line outages. Furthermore, the N-l security criterion is embedded into constraints and thus a security-constrained transmission expansion planning (TEP) model under uncertainty is formulated. Computational studies on the modified IEEE 24-bus reliability test system (RTS) validate the effectiveness of the proposed planning method.
