In order to embed a new module of network control into communication protocols, a design method of protocol abstraction is proposed. By using this design method, a network simulator is developed. One of the instances used as a benchmark to test the simulator is the stability problem of the information flow of computer networks, which is formulated as an optimization problem of the control mechanism of the information flow of computer networks. To solve the optimization problem, a new algorithm for the adjustment of the window size counted in packet numbers in the transport layer is proposed, in which the corresponding controller is constructed by a combination of polynomial and exponential functions of the window size and the delay time of the transmission processes. The algorithm is implemented in the simulator and shows a higher stability and a bigger information flow compared with TCP Reno. The network simulator can test new ideas on network control algorithms for future Internet because of the availability of its protocol abstraction function.
