An investigation into distributed base station design for LMDS systems

This paper investigates the design characteristics and architecture needed for an LMDS base station design that could support distributed sectors; that is, a base station located at one building with at least one sector that is located at another, nearby building. The motivation for such a design would be to place the transceiver assets at the most favorable location in a congested metropolitan area with uneven building heights. Uneven building heights can cause shadows in coverage even when the base station is at the highest vantage point. Enabling the distribution of sectors over a wider area improves the likelihood that complete coverage may be realized.
