The GLI has been developed as an optical sensor system that is mounted on the Advanced Earth Observing Satellite- II (ADEOS-II). The GLI consists of a scanning radiometer unit (SRU), which contains a scanner and a telescope, and an electrical unit (ELU). This report shows the structure and thermal control subsystems for the development of the GLI-PFM. The structure subsystem is a light, but strong, stiff structure. Special attention was given to high alignment accuracy, which is a prerequisite for the optical system, ease of assembly, and ease of use in a structure subsystem design. Since temperature stability is important for the optical assemblies, we employed a membrane method using polyimide film. We also employed an independent thermal control using local radiators. Structural and thermal analyses and test results show the validity of the subsystem design of the SRU and ELU.
