In 1999, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) devised a high-performance lithium polymer battery technology known as "MCC Polymer Power." The Polymer Power Cell consists of a lithium metal oxide cathode, the surface-modified carbon anode, and a polymer electrolyte that is thermally cured during the lamination of both electrodes. Unique additives are used for the surface modification of active materials and for the interface control between the active material and the polymer electrolyte. Additives suppress undesirable side reactions and enhance the stability of the chemical components. Polymer Power achieves high-energy density and high safety characteristics while maintaining its performance at the elevated temperatures. This paper describes the potential of Polymer Power for telecommunications applications under severe operating conditions.
