The performance of optimum combining (OC) for space diversity reception in digital cellular radio systems with a non-Gaussian multipath fading channel and multiple cochannel interferers (CCI), each having some specified average power, is examined. The fading process is specifically modeled by a process that has many Gaussian-like properties called spherically invariant random process (SIRP). In some practical fading environments, it has been illustrated that this process is capable of modelling the multipath fading process appropriately. An exact distribution of outage probability is eventually determined as the cumulative density function (CDF) of the output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) that is greater than some specified threshold.
