Product innovation lifecycle maintenance and solution management at SAP

Summary form only given. The development environment has vastly changed over the last years. Development architectures of single database servers are replaced by message based exchange servers, cross application handling emerged, business demands change more rapidly and Web portals, Web services etc. require not only new tools to manage software maintenance, but also preventive maintenance tools as customer implementations extend. Those are complex with respect to the number of installations and also challenging in terms of users. A well designed product innovation lifecycle delivers already higher software quality upfront. SAP NetWeaver and the business process platform provide the base for reuse and composite architecture. Only combining preventive maintenance tools with the solution management process will support a lower total cost of ownership. Organizing this around 10,000 and plus developers distributed around the globe represents an additional challenge. The scope of the presentation is thus to outline these requirements within the context of SAP Labs development network including new upcoming challenges.
