Flat plate transition data in the supersonic andhypersonic flow regimes, is manipulated toprovide simple transition predictionformulations. The extensive data set, whichcomes from a significant number of experimentswith finite leading edge thickness models invarious wind tunnels, has been previouslyassembled in a database, and elaborated toreveal the primary correlation parameters.The data is organized in a convenient wayfor regression analysis and the establishment ofsimple mathematical correlation forms. Notingthe significant size of the database, and thesuccessful correlation of the majority of thedata, practicable flat plate transition predictiontools are proposed and their ranges ofapplicability identified. The proposedformulations capture, among other things,transition reversal at strong bluntnessconditions, while at weak bluntness conditionsthere are indications of important initialdisturbance and receptivity effects, which arenot included in the present analysis.
