This study analyzes new dynamics of laser diodes subject to short EC (/spl nu//sub RO/ > /spl nu//sub EC/) optical feedback. This dynamics corresponds to packages of high frequency pulses (at /spl nu//sub EC/) that are modulated by slower, periodic envelope (regular pulse packages or RPP). Numerical results are based on the Lang-Kobayashi equations, for the electrical field E(s) = /spl radic/(P(s))e/sup i/spl phi/(s)/ and the excess carrier number N. P and /spl phi/ are the power and the phase of the light wave, time s and the delay time /spl theta/ are in units of the photon lifetime /spl tau//sub p/.
