An observer for the Newton's cradle: a nonlinear mechanism unobservable in the absence of impacts

We consider a simplified Newton's cradle. An observer is proposed that asymptotically estimates all the nonmeasurable state variables, in presence of a infinite sequence of non-smooth impacts.
