For the new generation of megajoule class laser, the final optic assembly is one of the most critical components for the success of the inertial confinement fusion program. This system is primarily used to convert, with high efficiency to the third harmonic, the 1053-nm amplified laser beam and to focus the resultant UV beam on target. Optimal system design also requires protection of the target and the plasma diagnostics by filtering the unconverted light (at 1053 and 526.5 nm), delivery of a sample laser diagnostic beam for precision metrology, and protection of most of the optical and mechanical parts from the neutron emission of the target.
