Described is a suite of integrated high frequency (HF) network management algorithms used in modelling a large Australian military HF tactical information network (HF Modernisation Project). The algorithms perform automatic node selection (routing), frequency selection and traffic load shedding in such a way as to maintain a high grade of service (GOS) for the highest priority traffic classes when a network is overloaded by offered traffic and when there are insufficient frequencies available to support traffic flows at times of poor ionospheric propagation and high spectral interference. We present simulation results which demonstrate the benefit and effectiveness of our algorithms in a large (205 node) hub network.
