A ultrasound scattering and attenuation measurement system has been designed by embedding tissue samples in a reference ultrasound phantom. Scattering and attenuation properties of human tissues together with their ultrasound speed properties are the most important parameters of medical ultrasound imaging. In this work we present a method (called SCATTEN) to measure both scattering and attenuation properties of tissue samples by embedding them in a reference ultrasound phantom. The scattering and attenuation measurement system for tissue samples seems to be quite simple and reliable. However, we need a lot of experiments to analyze the reliability of the method more strictly. Later, we aim to develop the same method applicable to analyze abnormal tissue (tumors etc.) surrounded by known normal tissue automatically in a computer connected to a real-time ultrasound scanner.
