The article examines the problem of video data compression as a means of telecommunication networks optimisation. The main practical problem is the point-to-point conformity of the restored and original images. The methods used to solve this problem can be divided into two groups. One group is based on integrated conversions (discrete cosine transform, Walsh transform, etc.) and the other group enables data compression without integrated conversions. Video signal compression in the first group is accompanied inevitably by quantization, and threshold processing of its components. Within the second group we consider an adaptive sampling-local differential coding video data compression method for use in digital TV systems.
