Eliminating traditional inspection from the electronics manufacturing process

The author describes the transition from traditional, after the fact, workmanship inspection by quality assurance department inspectors to preventive inspection by the operators who assemble the electronics hardware, utilizing a self-directed work team that has been trained and empowered not only to build quality into the product but to inspect, verify, and accept it, utilizing the 'buddy system' approach. Results are improved quality and reduced labor costs.
