A digital transmission approach for indoor millimeter waveband systems

This paper considers an approach to digital transmission over the indoor millimeter wave radio channel, which is suitable for personal communications. After reviewing the characteristics of the millimeter wave indoor channel, a digital transmission technique known as Commutation Signaling is presented. Commutation Signaling is a simple bandwidth expanding modulation technique with multipath intersymbol interference suppression capabilities. This feature makes Commutation Signaling attractive for indoor wireless communication systems. Modems for this transmission technique can be implemented by using Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) technology, resulting in small size portable terminals.
