The Music Therapy Department at Matheny wanted to organize a student hand chime choir. The department wanted to include the students with severe motor impairments. After consulting the Technical Resources Department, plans were made to mount the hand bells in a rack that included solenoids, solid state relays, and jacks to plug in switches. The only problem was the wires. Every concert was a big spaghetti party. Switches were often disconnecting. Something needed to be done. The solution was to make the system wireless. The final system consisted of chimes, solid state relays, wireless transceivers, a single board computer, and other miscellaneous parts.
