Bidding experiences for CALS compliant projects (computer aided acquisition and logistics support)

Describes some experiences in bidding for a CALS contract including one approach which has been taken to the design of an infrastructure to support a CALS/CITIS requirement. Since the CITIS is, in essence, a new application software layer on a database management system the approach taken to the provision of a CITIS service has been that of applying open system techniques and partitioning the CALS problem 'in the large' into smaller problems and their interfaces. This approach has the major advantage that it eases the problems associated with multi-national operation. Further, changes in business policy during the bid process can be mapped into changes in the architecture at short notice.
