Improving software documentation accuracy with writer and editor partnerships

Changes made in the publishing process at Microsoft to improve software documentation accuracy are described. The changes consisted of early editorial involvement, writing and editing in parallel with software development, and involvement of writers until the book goes to print. Thus, the best process to ensure accuracy requires creating a working partnership between writers and editors that gives both an equal stake in the accuracy of the final product.
