Purification and facycling of contaminated groundwater-the karlsruhe drinking water treatment plant

This presentation is a discussion of the work originally reported by Sontheimer (1981) at the Fifth Ozone World Congress, ad expanded in a recent publication by Nagel et al. (1982). Groundwater contaminated with petroleum products and with iron cyanide complexes is being purified for potable purposes at the Durlacher Wald waterworks in the City of Karlsruhe, Federal Republic of Germany. Ozonation is the key treatment step to improve biological treatment processes which occur in the ground after the ozonized water is reinjected.
