Calibration of Infrared Ear Thermometers (IRETs)

In recent years in our country, calibrations of infrared ear thermometers, which have been used intensively in the health field, can not be done within the traceability chain. The accuracy of measurement in this area depends entirely on the information determined by the device manufacturers or suppliers. However, many years ago, intensive and systematic studies were conducted in America, the European Union and Japan to discipline this area. In this study; calibration bath which has the features such as controlled temperature, mixing, temperature stability and homogeneity and specially manufactured; and together with hot body resources (cavities) in accordance with both EN and ASTM standards, which are central importance to the calibration of infrared ear thermometers (radiation thermometers), 'Ear Thermometer Reference System for Infrared (IR) Thermometers' was established in TÜBİTAK UME. Thanks to this system installed, the calibrations of the infrared ear thermometers found in the market will now be able to be done in our institute.
