Three different sensor structures are studied under experiment conditions. Their sensing properties are tested and compared from the following aspects: the sensing range along the axial direction, the negative sensing areas along the axial direction, the symmetry of the sensing field distribution, and the absolute change amount of the sensor capacitance. The sensor structure with axial driven guards has the widest sensing range along axial direction and asymmetric sensing field distribution on the cross-section; the sensor structure with earthed axial guard rings has the smallest absolute change amount of capacitance. These results are concordant with the three-dimensional simulation analyses.
