Titanium is widely used in orthopedics and dentistry as implant material. Recentlyrnseveral chemical surface treatments have been proposed in order to improve osseointegration ofrntitanium. In this work we aimed to determine how these surface modifications affect the fatiguernlife of an implant material.rnWith this aim we applied the fluctuating bend test to chemically treated titanium samples.rnSpecimens were cut from a mill finished titanium grade 4 plate. Some of the specimens werernsand blasted. Alkaline Treatment and Hydrogen Peroxide Treatment were applied to thernspecimens. Then they were subjected to fatigue test. In every steps of the work surface roughnessrnof the samples was determined using surface profilometer. Fracture surfaces were evaluated byrnmeans of SEM.rnThe surface treatments reveal a strong reduction in the fatigue performance of titanium.rnTherefore these treatments should be evaluated also with respect to their effect on the fatiguernperformance of material.
