Interfacial Bonding Strength and Mechanical Properties of High-Strength Steel and Austenite Stainless Steel Laminated Plates

Laminated steel plates which consist of high-strength steel and austenite stainless steel are proposed to obtain high strength-ductility combinations. Bonding strength at the interfaces between layers is important to avoid fracture due to delamination. In this study, the bonding strength was investigated by a peel test and the effect of peel strength on mechanical properties in tensile deformation was considered. The laminated steel plates were prepared by a cold rolling process to obtain relatively weak bonding strength. The bonding strength was controlled by reduction in thickness and the following heat treatment. The result of the peel test demonstrated that the peel strength increased with increasing heat treatment temperature and time. It was found that the fracture profile and elongation were affected by the bonding strength of interface.
