Pultruded composites are candidate materials for ever-increasing structural applications because of their continuous production capability, light weight, and excellent properties. These materials have a complex structure: they are inhomogeneous, anisotropic, and consist of continuous fibers aligned in the longitudinal direction sandwiched between layers of continuous strand mat. The complex structure makes it necessary to understand the basic mechanical behavior of these important materials. In the current investigation, a total of 105 specimens have been tested to study the influence of the angle betweent he loading direction and the pultrusion direction. The unnotched tensile strength, the tensile strength of specimens with a 5/8 in. diameter open hole, and the strength of 5/8 in. diameter pin-loaded specimens producing net-tension, bearing and shear-out failures are measured for angles between 0 and 90 degrees.
