Learning is a critical function in school as well as in industry. It is well accepted that lectures provide a limited environment for learning and education, and training programs have developed many methods to minimize the weaknesses of the lecture approach. Experiential based (XB) learning modifies the learning environment so that students gain as much experience as possible and learn through that experience. At the University of Missouri-Rolla Engineering Management Department this approach is being utilized successfully in a number of different classes. This paper provides some insights into this experience so that other faculty can consider this approach for their future classes. In addition, this approach can be used by industry to improve their training processes and provide significant advantages over traditional training methods.
