For years, interoperability was the holy grail of simulation reuse. The ability to assemble simulation components into multiple configurations -composability - enables developers and experimenters to maximize resources to perform analysis. The benefits of composability include reuse, consistency of data and algorithms, and reduction in cost of analysis; however, there is potential for project management challenges in both the areas of development and use of composable architectures. This paper documents the Modeling Architecture for Technology, Research, and Experimentation (MATREX) as a composable system and identifies potential project management challenges for composable systems in general.
