Dinitrophenyl hydrazine (DNPH) cartridge trap-HPLC method is generally used in arnmeasurement of formaldehyde in indoor air. However, there has been growing recognition thatrnDNPH make the measurements of formaldehyde error under the highly humid condition and it has arnsuspicion of mutagenicity. To solve these problems, we developed a O -rn(pentafluorobenzyl)hydroxylamine (PFBOA) tube. But the tube had a problem of transpiration whilernsampling and transportation. Now, we have successfully developed a new tube used O-(4-rntrifluoromethoxybenzyl)hydroxylamine (TFBA) and investigated its performances. Under therncondition of highly humidity (75%RH), the recovery of formaldehyde was more than 90%, and didrnnot show a decrement formaldoxime during a 3-day preservation at room temperature. In the modelrntest using air of the concentration nearly equal to the value of Japanese guideline for indoor air, thernrecoveries were 64~127%, in case of 30-min and 24-hr sampling,.
