Boreholes are usually drilled through fluid-saturatedrnformations. The conventional elastic solutions for boreholesrncannot treat appropriately the coupling effects between thernrock matrix deformation and pore fluid flow. These effects arernfully captured by the application of poroelasticity to thernborehole problems. This paper presents the software, PBORE-rn3D for Windows, which is capable of performing stabilityrnanalyses of boreholes taking into consideration the fullyrncoupled effects between the rock matrix and pore fluid usingrnrecently-developed poroelastic borehole models. PBORE-3Drncan perform analyses of stress/pore pressure, formationrnfailure, and mud weight design; the input can be enteredrnconveniently and results can be displayed graphically throughrnthe interfaces. Various features and user-friendlyrnenvironments of PBORE-3D are also demonstrated throughrnexamples.
