Abstract: Information on particle size distribution and concentration of plume aerosols produced by laser treatment and electrosurgery is required to evaluate the potential health hazards of the surgical team and the patient during treatment of tissue. This paper describes the properties of aerosols in laser and electrosurgery plume. Experiments with different in-vitro conditions and laser parameters have been performed. The investigations were carried out by use of CO$-2$/- and Nd:YAG-Laser with different power densities, beam diameters and tissue types. In addition in the preliminary experiments with 308 nm Excimer laser radiation quite different results have been obtained. The aerosols produced during laser treatment have been compared to those produced during electrosurgery. !5
