DETERMINATION OF EMISSION SOUND PRESSURE LEVELS USING INTENSITY TECHNIQUE. COMPARISONS WITH TRADITIONAL ISO STANDARDS

The emission sound pressure level in accordance with IS0 11201 can often be approximatedby the sound intensity. The method is more accurate than the new IS0 11202, in particularunder reverberant conditions and at Iong(bystander positions) distances. The intensity methodis also more generally applicable than IS0 11204 which, in practice, is restricted to ratheromnidirectional sound sources or to sources with a directivity towards the operator. There arestill problems to be solved with the new method. The accuracy will depend on themeasurement situation and suitable indicators must be found. The sound fielddirectional characteristics of the intensity probe will, in some cases, create problems.
