Use of hybrid experimental-analytical SEA technique to predict the acoustic performance of sound packages in a full vehicle

Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) is widely used to predict the interior noise in vehicles due to high-frequency broadband airborne excitation. However, in many cases, one does not have access to sufficient information regarding the structure design or the sources to create fully predictive SEA models. A hybrid experimental-analytical modeling method is proposed to predict the acoustic performance of specific sound packages in a full vehicle under realistic loading conditions. Fully predictive airborne SEA models of one or several sub-assemblies are combined with other experimentally characterized components. In-situ testing techniques for characterizing the sub-assemblies are presented. The resulting hybrid model is validated against test for typical operating conditions. Finally, it is demonstrated how such model can be efficiently used for design studies and evaluation of trim performance.
