The Economic Impact on America’s Products Without a Noise Policy

The European Union is moving rapidly to implement new noise rules that may be used to block, or atleast impede, the flow of U.S. products that are exported to Europe. Japan and other countries appearto be following the EU's lead. The American industries that produce noise-generating products are notprepared to deal with the engineering and manufacturing issues involved in making their productsmeet the EU noise requirements. The U.S. must develop an industry/government partnership with aresearch component that will provide the basic technical support to industry through research,education, and technology transfer in product noise.
