Management and Control of Outsourcing in Dispersed Manufacturing Networks

To adapt to the radical change brought about by the elusive character of industrial networks, the need arises to adjust andrnimprove the management of supply chains, especially the management and control of outsourcing as a main trend ofrnmanufacturing strategy. This paper investigates one issue of continuous outsourcing for industrial networks, i.e. thernselection of suppliers and co-makers, since this becomes one of the most important factors in product realisation. Arncriteria system is established based on a literature survey and on interviews with researchers and practitioners fromrnDutch manufacturing industry. The preliminary results show that the criteria system reflects the changes by the industrialrnnetworks. However, the particular characteristics of Dispersed Manufacturing Networks require further operationalisationrnof the criteria systems and the embedments of decision-making in tools that manage the uncertainty of data during therndifferent stages of product development, engineering and manufacturing.
