摘要

The Al_2O_3 particles reinforced aluminum matrix composite (Al_2O_3p/Al) are more and more widely usedrnfor their excellent physical and chemical properties. However, their poor machinability leads to severe tool wearrnand bad machined surface. In this paper laser heat assisted machining is adopted in machining Al_2O_3p/Alrncomposite and good result was obtained. The result of our experiment shows in machining Al_2O_3p/Al compositesrnthe cutting force is reduced in 30~50%, the tool wear is reduced in 20~30% and machined surface quality isrnimproved in laser assisted machining as compared with conventional cutting. Some analysis on the mechanism ofrnlaser heat assisted machining of Al_2O_3p/Al composite is given in the paper too.
