The Sao Martinho gold occurrence in E Portugal is hosted in Upper Proterozoic metasedimen-tary rocks (mostly meta arenites and metapelites) of the Serie Negra sequence. The Serie Negra is believed to have contributed the metals that have been remobilised in two mineralising events, one low-temperature (371℃) and another high-temperature (> 550 ℃). The two ore forming stages result in distinct mineral paragene-ses.
