EUTEF INTEGRATED PAYLOAD SYSTEM SAFETY METHODOLOGY

Carlo Gavazzi Space (CGS) is developing the European Technology Exposure Facility (EuTEF) under contract with the European Space Agency (ESA). EuTEF is a facility which will provide scientific users with the means to collect scientific/technological data in the fields of: electrostatic discharge phenomena, materials property degradation in space environment, impact of micrometeorids/debris on materials, oxygen measurement in space environment. The facility will accommodate Instruments in the form of Standard Payloads (SPs) providing them with standardised interfaces. Each Instrument is developing by different Experimenters and will be integrated in the EuTEF facility by CGS.rnThe integration of different instruments/payloads leads CGS to consider not only the hazards coming from each payload itself but the possible hazards which can arise from the interaction of the various equipment/materials such as chemical reactions, EMC and so on. The purpose of this paper is to describe CGS's system safety methodology used to satisfy the safety requirements when different systems are integrated in the same facility.
