COMPLIANCE TO INTERPRETATION LETTER NSTS/ISS 18798, MA2-00-038 (MAINTENANCE ON ISS PAYLOADS)

The Interpretation Letter NSTS/ISS 18798, MA2-00-038 was the first attempt of an interpretation and clarification of the safety policy w.r.t. On-Orbit Maintenance at ISS-Payloads.rnThis paper will show on typical ISS-Payloads under development at ASTRIUM GmbH how Maintainability under the obligations of NSTS 1700.7B+ISS Addendum and the Interpretation Letter MA2-00-038 was followed and imbedded into the design, e.g. in the areas safe access, modification of existing safety features and re-verification of safety controls/inhibits. It will also be demonstrated as an example how the assessment within the Safety Data Package for the Payload MSL (Materials Science Laboratory) was performed (following the Maintainability Handbook for ISS Payloads, GPQ-MAN-04).
