PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE: TECHNOLOGY AND MINDSET

Maintenance has been considered as an unavoidable cost of doing business. The focus was always on to repairs in necessity. But this paradigm has been changed to proactive or predictive maintenance suggesting that maintenance be regarded as a profit center. This paper examines the benefits of or Predictive Maintenance (PM) which involves human resources from operator to engineer & ultramodern technologies such as Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) to Condition Monitoring (CM). Reliability focused maintenance process not only assesses but also increases remaining life of assets. Technology has given opportunity to improve quality and extend the asset life. Old mindset of looking at maintenance is the only hindrance.
