This work deals with effects of adding hihg-frequency excitation to the partically follower-loaded double pendulum.Longitudinal excitation is shown to stabilize the pendulum with respect to flutter and divergence, and the range of load arrangements for which flutter exists is brodened. This range is diminished with transverse excitation added, the flutter stability is increased whereas stability with respect to divergence is decreased.Nonlinear analysis shows that longitudinal excitation tends to turn supercritical bifurcations into subcritical and finite-amplitude periodic motion may as a result coexist with the stabilized straight position. When transverse excitation is added this effect is not seen.
