TRANSIT TRAVELER INFORMATION (TTI) AS PARTOF A COMMUNITY INFORMATION SYSTEM

An increasing number of metropolitan areas are developing regional advanced travelerrninformation systems (ATIS) and 511 systems, responsible for disseminating traffic and travelrninformation by telephone, websites, or other means. Transit agencies are frequently partnersrnin these systems, and TTI information that the transit system generates to inform existing andrnpotential passengers is contributed to the regional pool of data used to make travel decisions.rnThis paper contains a brief summary of TTI systems that are part of regional and/orrncommunity-based information networks. There are several locations in the U.S. and abroadrnthat have integrated TTI with other travel and non-travel information (about localrncommunities and regions). A number of examples are described in the paper.
